Edmonton Oilers prospect and former Edmonton Oil King Kristians Pelss has been missing since Tuesday and is feared dead in his native Latvia. Current speculation is that he took his own life by jumping from a bridge into the Daugava River.
Dean Blundell of the Toronto radio station The Edge made these comments about the situation.
“How much must it suck playing hockey in Edmonton? (…) He’d rather jump off a bridge in a war-torn country, into a freezing cold river, than go back to Edmonton.”
His family, friends, and thousands of hockey fans—of Latvia and of his Edmonton-based franchises—are in mourning over his disappearance, and this despicable excuse for a human being thought that these were appropriate comments to make about the suspected suicide of a 20 year old boy.
